Vocal Week

Week 5

Tuition: $430
On-Campus Housing and Meals

Photo of Flawn Williams, coordinator and instructor of Ad Hoc Harmonies.Vocal Week is becoming a beloved Augusta institution. Perhaps no other form of expressive culture captures the essence of our lives better than singing the melodies, harmonies, and poetry of this venerable art form. Come raise your voice with ours!Photo of Val Mindel with guitar. Val teaches Trios as well as Country Duets.

Vocal Week coordinator Flawn Williams has again put together a staff of  extraordinarily talented and caring individuals who sing from the heart. Old-time ballads, Renaissance songs, songs from vaudeville, spirituals, jazz, duets, trios, a cappella singing, new songs, old songs -  sounds that will enthrall you. Taking good care of your voice will be emphasized, with classes in voice technique plus vocal warm ups offered every morning. From those gentle early morning warm-ups to late night song swaps, singers will delight in the variety and scope of this year's Vocal Week.

Students may work in a range of cultures and styles taught by nationally and internationally known singers, teachers, songwriters, and a whistler:
Peggy Seeger, Sheila Kay Adams, Charles Williams, Ann Louise White, Emily Eagen, AnnCharles Williams, instructor for Care of the Voice and Spirituals classes Downey, Flawn Williams, Valerie Mindel, Joe Newberry, Rhiannon Giddens, and Laurelyn Dossett. (See the complete class list below.)

Those at the beginning level can get tips on creating simple harmonies, and experienced harmony singers get a challenging workout. Learn how to care for your voice and expand your vocal range. You may also choose to take a Dance Week or Old-Time Week class in the afternoon. Each day late afternoon bonus sessions offer interesting choices that aren’t available in other sessions. Evenings offer Mini-courses, concerts, dances, song swaps, jam sessions, and a student showcase. After hours, we liven up the Ice House and other campus locations by singing everything from ballads to doo-wops.

To register, specify “Vocal Week.”
You will choose your classes at the Sunday night orientation session,
after meeting the instructors and hearing more specifics about the classes they are offering.
