2010 Juried Craft Fair

The 2010 Augusta Festival Juried Craft Fair will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010, from 10am to 6pm in Elkins, West Virginia.  It is part of the Augusta Festival, which runs from Friday, August 13, through Sunday, August 15, 2010.  In addition to the Craft Fair, the Augusta Festival celebrates Appalachian heritage arts and folk life with concerts, music, and dance workshops from 10am to 6pm in the Elkins City Park on Saturday, followed by an evening concert at 8pm at the Harper-McNeeley Auditorium.

The Augusta Festival Juried Craft Fair will be located in the Elkins City Park, a wooded site with pavilions, picnic tables, and a playground adjacent to Davis & Elkins College on Sycamore Street.  Attendance has been estimated as ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 people.

The Augusta Festival Juried Craft Fair stresses original, individually hand-made craft items with an emphasis on traditional techniques.  The Augusta Festival Juried Craft Fair will be juried by a committee of qualified professionals from within the arts and crafts community.  Decisions of the jurors are based on merit and quality as well as overall balance of the various media represented.  All decisions will be final.

Selection Process:

1st Jury session – all applications must be received on or before Jan. 31, 2010.

2nd Jury session – all applications must be received on or before March 15, 2010.

Juried Craft Fair Rules:

  • Pre-manufactured parts, imported, and bazaar-type crafts will not be considered.
  • Selections will be made from the primary classifications listed on the application.
  • To ensure balance and fairness to all exhibitors, each classification has a limited number of openings.
  • In order to fill all openings, judging for specific classifications may be held until the second jury.
  • Classifications filled during the first jury session will not be considered during the second jury.
  • Selection letters for the 1st Jury session will be mailed no later than February 28, 2010; selection letters for the 2nd Jury session will be mailed no later than April 15, 2010.
  • All fair entry fees are due and payable upon notification of successful jury selection.
  • Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  • The Augusta Heritage Center reserves the right to use the applicant’s slides or color photos of their craft or booth display to enhance advertising and publications.
  • Official Juried Craft Fair hours are 10am until 6pm on Saturday August 14, 2010.
  • All exhibitors and concessions are required to be set up prior to 10am and remain set up until 6pm.
  • Exhibitors are responsible for their own setup, including tables, chairs, and extension cords.  Please be prepared for inclement weather.
  • Vehicles will not be permitted in the park between the hours of 10am and 6pm.
  • The Augusta Heritage Center reserves the right to oversee booths after set up and also to reject work which is not similar to the work which was submitted for jurying.
  • Once selected, exhibitors may display and sell only the type of work which was juried.
  • Exhibitors may not include items by other persons.

Application Process:

All applicants are required to submit the following items:

  1. Completed and signed application form (Send no fees at this time).
  2. Minimum of three (3) recent slides, photos, or digital images of the work which you propose to exhibit.
  3. Minimum of one (1) recent slide, photo, or digital image of your exhibit/booth (including tent, trailer, etc.). NOTE:  Photo quality is very important, and may keep your entry from being accepted.
  4. Resume or promotional materials are optional.

Publicity:

The Augusta Festival is publicized through magazines, newspaper articles, web listings, and the Augusta Heritage Center website – www.augustaheritage.com.  Augusta also produces an annual catalog which is distributed nationally. 

Entry Fees for Juried Craft Fair Exhibitors:

All exhibitors, except food concessions, are included in this category.

  • Booth Space - approximately 10’ X 20’ (without tent)      $115.00
  • Booth Space – approximately 10’ X 15’ (tent provided)    $165.00

Food Concessions:

Food concessions will be located along the blacktop between the Randolph County Community Arts Center and the City Park.  The total number of all food and drink concessions will be limited to ten (10), and will include limiting concessions to one (1) in each food category (i.e., one ice cream stand, etc.).  Tent or booth space within the City Park is not available for food concessions.  All food concessions will be required to hold a valid permit issued by the Randolph County Health Department before set-up will be allowed.
