2008 Augusta Class Letter

Week 5
Old-Time Week
Beginning/Intermediate Old-Time Guitar

Tom Druckenmiller

Hello!

My name is Tom Druckenmiller, and I’ll be your instructor for Beg/Int Old-Time Guitar. I have been teaching guitar for over 40 years in all kinds of situations including individual, class and even specialized lessons to vision and physically impaired students.

The class will focus on old-time back-up with an emphasis on rhythm and the introduction of a few simple but effective runs. You should be acquainted with the chords in the keys of C, D, G and A and be willing to use a flatpick or thumbpick in a flat pick fashion. We will explore back-up for fiddle tunes and vocal songs. We will also explore the use of the capo to both change the key but offer variety to your back-up style.

You should possess a playable guitar, extra set of strings, necessary picks, capo, and recording device as we will not work from tablature. We’ll have a great deal of fun and listen to some expert players from the past and present on recordings for inspiration.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at littlecat@enter.net or 610-395-5908.

I hope you join us for a week of instruction and fun at Augusta.
