Welcome, guitar players!
We are happy to have you all on board for our best week
ever. On staff we have five of the most experienced players/teachers from the
fingerpicking and flatpicking genres. Pat Donohue and I will cover
fingerpicking, Wayne Henderson and Robin Kessinger are our flatpickers, and
Parrish Ellis (from the Wyios) will lead jamming and teach a mini-class. It is
bound to be a week to remember.
On your “do not forget” list, please include the following:
a capo, whatever picks you use, extra strings, and a small audio recording
device. We encourage recording as you will have enough material to get you
through the year and will need a sound reminder. Some of your teachers might
use tablature as a teaching aid. You might want to familiarize yourself now, if
you've never used tab.
Some of you might want to pack a “gig bag” or soft case for
your instrument. Lugging a heavy case up and down the hills of the campus is
not the best option.
If there is room, bring a fan for your dorm room, quarters
and laundry soap for the washer and drier and lots of bottled water.
Show up rested and ready for a great week of playing with
new friends. Practice up so your calluses are tough!
We look forward to the best week ever and to being paired
with our great friends, the Cajuns!
All the best,
Mary Flower, coordinator for Guitar Week
