2008 Augusta Class Letter

Week 1
Cajun/Creole Week
Intermediate Cajun Fiddle

Tracy Schwarz

Hello '08 Intermediate Cajun Fiddle Class member and welcome aboard our wagon!

We're gonna start to make our fiddles play melodies with the true Cajun sound of exquisite waltzes and pulsing two-steps, and maybe a bayou blues to put the icing on the cake. We'll dip into the styles of Denis McGee, Dewey Balfa, Adam Hebert and others you suggest when time permits. We'll work on our seconding ("bassing"), too, in groups of two, to help in developing a groove with others.

Tools: Recorder, fresh tapes or mini-disks or iPods or Flash things or whatever. An extension cord is a good idea too if you get your power that way. Oh yeah - rosin, extra strings, etc. We'll tune our fiddles down to better connect with the predominant C/G accordions.

Ok! Now's the time to start following your heart. When you come to class be sure to tell me what I can do to help.

See you soon,

Tracy Schwarz
