2008 Augusta Class Letter

Week 4
Bluegrass Week
Advanced Bluegrass Banjo

Terry Baucom

Dear Friends,

I am certainly looking forward to working with everyone in the Advanced Banjo Class during the Augusta Heritage Bluegrass Week 2008.  I plan to teach the same way that I learned – by having each participant rely on their ear, instead of on tablature.  I feel many banjo players today are becoming too dependant on tab. We will work on tone, timing, technique and on developing your own style.

There will be adequate time allowed for me to address your questions.  We will spend time working as a group, as well as in one-on-one sessions.

You are welcome to bring a recorder to class and encouraged to take notes.  As an advanced student, you will be expected to know how to tune your banjo and keep it in tune, use a capo, play up to speed and how to play in a band setting.

Get ready for a lot of melody playing in the straight-ahead BAUCOM style!

Sincerely,

Terry Baucom
