Spring Augusta Week
Beginning Hammered Dulcimer

This class is for students who have little or no knowledge of how to play a hammered dulcimer. Rental instruments will be available for those who don’t already have an instrument. During the week we’ll learn basics such as where the notes are, how to tune the instrument, and how to recognize its inherent patterns, as well as exercises designed to build skill and confidence. We’ll learn to play several tunes and get started on how to spice up our melodies with harmony and other embellishments. We’ll also explore the basics of how to find chords on the instrument and how to accompany others. Music and handouts will be provided, but ear training will be emphasized. Ability to read music is not required.
