Celtic Design and Lettering

This class offers students an opportunity to learn and use elements of Celtic design. Celtic knots, borders, and basic Celtic calligraphic alphabets can be combined with original or historical drawings. Students learn the basics of layout, pen work, and other traditional media and may adapt their designs to be carried out in mediums such as needlepoint, stonecarving, and engraving. Students may also make their own quill and reed pens. Advanced design topics, ink making, and gold-leaf work are demonstrated. Materials fee starts at $15. Minimum age: 14.
