2008 Augusta Class Description

Week 2
Blues Week
Intermediate/Advanced Blues Mandolin

Rich DelGrosso

This course is a survey of the music of the African-American mandolinist, from ragtime and jug band to the music of Chicago’s Southside. Lessons written in standard and TAB will include examples of early string band performers, like Vol Stevens, Howard Armstrong and Charlie McCoy. We will also study the music of urban performers like Yank Rachell and Johnny Young. Bring a recording device. Fiddlers are more than welcome. You should have basic playing skills on the mandolin or fiddle. I will teach some beginner skills, but the course is aimed more at the intermediate player.
