Week 1
Cajun/Creole Week
Zydeco Dance Party
Christy Leichty & Jim Phillips
Christy Leichty and Jim Phillips
live in rural St. Landry Parish, Louisiana and are familiar faces in
the Southwest Louisiana dance scene, especially since winning a
zydeco dance contest at The Creole Culture Family Festival at
Vermillionville in 1994. Just the other day, at a welding shop in
Opelousas, Louisiana, Jim was reminded about that long ago event by
one of the Creole welders. He called Jim "Zydeco Man." People in
Louisiana love to see and have a long memory for dancers enjoying
themselves and letting their hair down on the dance floor. Christy
and Jim simply love that Southwest Louisiana music. Zydeco or Cajun,
it's all French music to them. And, they can't stop moving to that
chank-a-chank and funky syncopation.
