Having received two Blues Music Award nominations (2006 and
2007), Rich DelGrosso is a perfomer unique
in keeping the mandolin alive in the blues. His
debut
CD, Get Your Nose Outta My Bizness!, remained in the top 15 on the Living
Blues radio chart for three months after it was released.
DelGrosso has been a writer/editor for Blues Revue
magazine since the very first issue in 1991. His guitar music column, Take It
On Home, has been a regular feature for 16 years! He has also written
articles for Living Blues, Mandolin Magazine, Frets,
Sing Out! and Footsteps. He has published three instruction books on
mandolin, his latest, Mandolin Blues: From Memphis to Maxwell Street
explores the role of the mandolin in the blues, with info and pictures of some
of the key players, from the early string and jug bands to Yank Rachell and
Johnny Young. He contributed a chapter in Blues Mandolin Man, the Richard
Congress book about Yank Rachell.
DelGrosso received a KBA for his work coordinating and
teaching at Augusta Heritage Center’s Blues Week. This program is a model for
similar workshops across the country and in the UK. Recently DelGrosso joined
the staff of world-renowned mandolinists at the Mandolin Symposium in Santa
Cruz, California.
