Ira Gitlin


Winner of the 1992 National Bluegrass Banjo Championship, Ira Gitlin brings to his teaching a wide-ranging knowledge of several music styles. He has performed with the Johnson Mountain Boys, Peter Rowan, Peter "P.D.Q. Bach" Schickele, the Gillis Brothers, and many other nationally-known artists. He is a frequent contributor to Bluegrass Unlimited and Banjo Newsletter, and has taught at Pete Wernick’s Jam Camp, Common Ground, Gettysburg, Swannanoa, Grey Fox, the Joe Val Festival and the Maryland Banjo Academy.  Ira also plays guitar and bass and has won two Washington Area Music Association awards. A graduate of Swarthmore, Ira was also a winner on the television show “Jeopardy.”
