Russ Barenberg
Russ Barenberg got his
start in 1970 with Tony Trischka and Pete Wernick in the groundbreaking
bluegrass band, Country Cooking. Before establishing himself as a top session
player in Nashville, he performed with Fiddle Fever, whose recording of “Ashokan
Farewell” became an American icon for the Civil War. Russ soon formed a trio
with Jerry Douglas and Edgar Meyer called “Skip, Hop and Wobble.” He’s recorded
with Randy Travis, Emmy Lou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Frank Wakefield, Tim O’Brien,
Sam Bush, Darrell Scott and Natalie MacMaster. His instructional books and DVDs
“How to Play Bluegrass Guitar” and “Teach Yourself Bluegrass Guitar,” are on
Homespun Tapes and Videos. Barenberg currently performs in a guitar duo with
