Russ Barenberg

Russ Barenberg got his start in 1970 with Tony Trischka and Pete Wernick in the groundbreaking bluegrass band, Country Cooking.  Before establishing himself as a top session player in Nashville, he performed with Fiddle Fever, whose recording of “Ashokan Farewell” became an American icon for the Civil War. Russ soon formed a trio with Jerry Douglas and Edgar Meyer called “Skip, Hop and Wobble.” He’s recorded with Randy Travis, Emmy Lou Harris, Ricky Skaggs, Frank Wakefield, Tim O’Brien, Sam Bush, Darrell Scott and Natalie MacMaster. His instructional books and DVDs “How to Play Bluegrass Guitar” and “Teach Yourself Bluegrass Guitar,” are on Homespun Tapes and Videos. Barenberg currently performs in a guitar duo with Bryan Sutton.  His new solo CD “When At Last” is on Compass Records. To learn more, visit www.russbarenberg.com.
